Have A Donut

For John the Baptist has come eating no bread and drinking no wine, and you say, “He has a demon!” The Son of man has come eating and drinking and you say, “Behold a gluttonous man and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!”

Luke 7:33-34.

Jesus was controversial, and sometimes, as in this case, the controversy was created by those seeking a reason to discredit Him.  This also proves that no matter what we do, there are those who will find a reason to question whether our actions line up with being a “good Christian” in their opinion.

Jesus pointed out that such scrutiny is ridiculous.

Ask For What You Need

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

James 1:5.

Try A Little Tenderness

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.  The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.

Proverbs 15:1-2

We all know them.  The people who think they know everything and let us know it.  Sometimes they are totally wrong.  What do we do?  We can publicly confront them and risk making them mad, or let them go on making an idiot of themselves, or follow the Biblical model and quietly speak to them about their error.  Using gentle words might save us from getting beat up.

Try a little tenderness.

Not Who We Expected

For they say, “His letters are weighty and strong, but his personal presence is unimpressive and his speech contemptible.”

Let such a person consider this, that what we are in word by letters when absent, such persons we are also in deed when present.  For we are not bold to class or compare ourselves with some of those who commend themselves; but when they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves they are without understanding.  But we will not boast beyond our measure, but within the measure of the sphere which God apportioned to us as a measure, to reach even as far as you.

1 Corinthians 10:10-13

Night Meditation

When I remember You on my bed,

I meditate on You in the night watches,

For You have been my help,

And in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.

My soul clings to you;

Your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 63:6-8

Be Aware of Deception

See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.

For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority….”

Colossians 2:8-10
