Blessed
be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God
of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions so that we will be able
to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we
ourselves are comforted by God.
2
Corinthians 1:3-4
There
is a notion floating around that people who have difficult lives are entirely
responsible for their situations and they should pull themselves up by their
boot straps and clean up the mess themselves.
That
is not what the Bible says. The Bible
states that Jesus comforts us in all our afflictions so that WE are able to
comfort others who are afflicted. It
does not say we are to judge whose fault it is that people are suffering.
We
cannot solve everyone’s problems, but we can offer a kind word of encouragement
to those who are suffering.
Be
bold. Swim against the tide. Give comfort and encouragement to those who
are having a rough time in life.
