For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made
known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were
eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He
received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was
made to Him by the Majestic Glory, “This is My beloved Son with whom I am
well-pleased”--
And we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven
when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
1 Peter 1:16-18
When the Disciples were questioned about their belief that
Jesus was the Son of God, they did not answer with hearsay, they answered with
their experience in being present at the crucifixion of Jesus and hearing the words of
God coming from heaven. They also
testified of witnessing Jesus, who rose from the dead, walking and ministering
on earth, and then ascending to heaven.
We know this to be true because there were thousands of
witnesses and because this information was written down for us to be able to
read and understand it today. The truth
of the Gospel goes on and on. It is
concrete and it is unchanging.
Therefore, we need not be ashamed when our faith is
questioned, we need only to tell the truth and let the Gospel stand on its own merit
and let the naysayers cower in their disbelief.
The truth is the truth.
