If
your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him
water to drink….
Proverbs
25:21
Many
times when I need help, it is not the people who I have helped that come to my
rescue, but someone else. I think that
is because the way God works is that He sends us where we are needed for help
and to give help.
Sometimes
where we are needed is not where we expect to be. When I was in high school there was a girl
who picked on me. My friends told me I
did not need to try to be friends with her and that I should stay away from her
and I did. Years later I ran into her and
she was distressed. She was going
through a difficult time getting divorced, going back to work and taking care
of four children.
The
natural woman would have said, “You got what you deserved.” But the natural woman was gone and the new
woman in Christ was in charge. I talked
with her about how capable she was and assured her she was a good student in school
and that she would master her new job and juggling child care in no time at
all. I also said I would pray for
her. She felt better.
I
few years later I ran into her again and she told me how everything worked
out. Her kids were doing alright, she
settled into her job, remarried and had a new baby. She was going fine.
God
calls us to do the right thing and to treat people right regardless how we have
been treated by them.
Be
merciful.
