Then he came to a cave and lodged there; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” He said, “I have been very zealous for the Lord, the God of hosts; for the sons of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. And I alone am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.”
1 Kings 19:9-10.
Elijah called the fire down from heaven. I would call that a roaring success, but Elijah was discouraged and hid in a cave. Some times we feel like we have been beaten up by the Church when all we were trying to do was the right thing. We may respond by hiding out by not going to church for a while. That’s OK, but don’t lose heart. God will come looking for you, and when He does say, “Here Am I.”
