Do
not call to mind the former things,
Or
ponder things of the past.
Behold,
I will do something new,
Now
it will spring forth;
Will
you not be aware of it?
I
will even make a roadway in the wilderness,
Rivers
in the desert.
Isaiah 43:18-19
There is nothing like thinking about past bad times to sink us into a feeling of hopelessness. Dwelling on what went wrong and the pain it caused does nothing to help us today. The past can cause us to put too much emphasis on minor problems rather than getting through them and moving on with life.
God promises us a better future, and we need to take that promise and run with it. Look for the rivers in the desert.
