Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry.
And
the devil said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become
bread.”
And
Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”
Luke
4:1-4
Jesus faced temptation just like we do. He was hungry and He was taunted by Satan to perform a miracle for His own benefit - and He declined to do so.
When
we are having a tough time, taking the easy way out looks good. Easy
does not mean right and we need to consider whether the easy way will
make things better or worse, and whether the easy way lines up with the
teachings of the Bible. Doing the easy thing to avoid the consequences
of doing the right thing is not right.
Doing
what is right is not a matter of us being comfortable. It is a matter
of following the teachings of Jesus and trusting God.
