More Than Lilies

 

"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?" 

 

"Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"

 

"And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. ..."

Matthew 6:25-29

Several years ago a friend told me that the first years her husband was in the ministry they had little money to spare.  Her daughter was starting school and she was worried about where they would get the money to buy her clothes.  The church parsonage where they lived had an old treadle sewing machine.  She said something to one of the women at church about needing clothes for her daughter and the lady said, "Why I have lots of fabric leftover from sewing projects and I have patterns for girls clothes from when my daughters were young that you are welcome to."  

 

My friend said, "I don't know how to sew."

 

The lady said, "I will teach you."

 

And, she came to the house and worked with her to make the first dress on that old treadle sewing machine.  After that my friend made four more dresses for her daughter.   

 

That is the way it is with God.  When we don't see an answer to our problems, He sends the answer because He cares for us.

 

Have faith you are of more value than the birds and lilies.
