Shoe Boxes

“And keep a good conscience so that in the thing in which you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.  For it is better, if God should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.”   1 Peter 3:16

We can try not to give our enemies any ammunition to use against us, but the craftiest enemies try to turn what we do that is right into something that is wrong.

There are people out there who say “Operation Christmas Child” is bad for the kids who receive the shoe boxes of school supplies and toys.  Their convoluted argument is that the goods in the boxes are not produced in the countries where the boxes are sent; therefore, the shoe boxes are hindering local commerce and the employment of people in those countries and thus contributing to the poverty of those children that receive the boxes.

To these self-righteous folks I say, I will say you are right when you get out your fat wallets and go to third world countries and start businesses employing local people to produce low cost goods they themselves can afford to buy.  That’s not going to happen, is it?

Tell me I am wrong.  I don’t care because I am doing something right.
