Do
not go out hastily to argue your case;
Otherwise,
what will you do in the end,
When
your neighbor humiliates you?
Proverbs
25:9
Some
lessons are hard learned. Here in the
United States people seem keen on taking one another to court over almost every
little disagreement. We have homeowner
associations to protect our eyes from being assaulted by non-approved exterior
paint colors and our ears from the thump of basketball playing kids. We have businesses and organizations that
argue about the copyright of a few words taken from the middle of a slogan. We have brothers suing brothers over who got
what when Mom died and we have parents bad mouthing one another because their
kids are arguing.
Much
of this could be resolved outside of the courts and without the embarrassment of
being publicly declared wrong or appearing silly, if we would take time to cool
off and think before we open our mouths, because we might decide the best thing to do is nothing.
