And
they were bringing even their babies to Him so that He would touch them, but
when the disciples saw it, they began rebuking them.
But
Jesus called for them, saying, “Permit the children to come to Me, and do not
hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive
the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all.”
Luke
18:15-17
What
do un-churched people expect from the Church?
Many think that the right thing to do is to be married, baptized and
buried in a church service. It is safe
to say, the Church will see most people on at least one of these occasions. The question is what we do when they show up
wanting something? Will we turn them
away or will we welcome them?
Religion
says, “There are rules to be followed and standards to be met. Go away.”
Jesus
said, “Permit the children to come to Me….”
And, I don’t think He was just talking about young people, I think He
was talking about all people. This being
said, should we not seize every opportunity to minister to those who do not
know Christ and strive to bring them into the Church?
