The Blessings Go On and On

“For in this case the saying is true, “One sows and another reaps.”

John 4:37

We do not to go about the work of God to become wealthy.  We do the work of God because we want people to know Jesus and to have a better life.  The work of God involves both preaching the Gospel and meeting the physical needs of people.

Several years ago, our neighbor’s daughter was struggling to take care of her children.  I gave my neighbor a bag of clothes my daughter had outgrown for her granddaughter, Heaven.  Heaven was starting kindergarten and needed clothes.

A few days later my neighbor told me that Heaven was overwhelmed by the gift of those clothes.  She said Heaven was telling everyone that “Sara Mills is my best friend.”  Heaven never met my daughter but she understood that someone cared for her.

Many of the clothes in that bag were hand me downs my daughter received from an older friend.  My daughter was blessed by those clothes and then Heaven was blessed by those clothes.

We sow and another reaps, then another sows and another reaps, and the blessings go on and on.

Seek And Find God

“Seek the Lord while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the Lord,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.”

Isaiah 55:6-7

God does not view humans as humans view humans.  God desires that we come to Him, not because we are good, but because God is good.  As long as we have a breath in our bodies we are candidates for God’s forgiveness.

Peace In Turmoil

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.

And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7

When things are going wrong, and sometimes when things are going right, we can be overtaken by anxiety.  We can “what if” ourselves into a place where our Christian faith seems to escape us.

We are not called to worry.  We are called to prayer and thanksgiving.  Taking our concerns and joys to God, lifts us up spiritually to a place where we can survive a rough ride or celebrate a pleasant journey.

Hold On To Me

If the Lord had not been my help,
My soul would soon have dwelt in the abode of silence.
If I should say, “My foot has slipped.”
Your loving kindness, O Lord, will hold me up.
When my anxious thoughts multiply within me,
Your consolations delight my soul.

Psalm 94:17-19

Destiny

“But since we are of the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope of salvation.  For God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live together with Him.”

1 Thessalonians 5:8-10

We have God’s promise that He has destined us for salvation. This means that God has claimed us as His own.  All we need do is to acknowledge Jesus as our Lord, Master and Savior.

Salvation is the free gift of God, why not receive it?

Stick Together

“But encourage one another day after day as long as it is still called “Today,” so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”

Hebrews 3:13

The Apostle Paul understood that Christians face the temptation of sin and that the best weapon the Church has against the invasion of sin is the cohesiveness of the believers.

To this end, Christians need to encourage other Christians and be encouraged to hold fast to their faith in Jesus Christ.  We stick together, pray together and keep our faith strong.
