But
Ruth said, “Do not urge me to leave you or turn back from following you; for
where you go, I will go, and where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people and your God,
my God.
Ruth
1:16
Ruth
was a foreigner who married an Israelite, Elimelech. When her husband died, she did not return to
her people where she could remarry, but stayed with her mother-in-law, Orpha, as
was the custom of the Israelites, even though it was likely she would die a
poor widow.
Ruth
rejected her former pagan religion and believed in the Almighty the God of
Israel. She trusted God and she was not
disappointed. She found a new husband,
Boaz, who loved her and cared for both her and her mother-in-law.
Ruth
teaches us that we can cling to God’s promises.
Even when we cannot see a favorable outcome, God is working for us and
we will not be disappointed.
