Give It Way - Quietly

But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

Every now and then someone who has worked their whole life and never accumulated much in the way of belongings – sometimes not even a car or a house, gives a large amount of money to a college or a hospital or some other charitable organization. 

Oseola McCarty of Mississippi spent her life hand washing laundry for rich people and saving her money.  In 1995 she donated $150,000 to the University of Southern Mississippi to be used for scholarships for needed students. 

Why would anyone pinch pennies to save money to give away?  I think this scripture says it all; it is not about here and now, it is about eternity.
