But
when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand
is doing, so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what
is done in secret will reward you.
Matthew
6:3-4
Every
now and then someone who has worked their whole life and never accumulated much
in the way of belongings – sometimes not even a car or a house, gives a large
amount of money to a college or a hospital or some other charitable
organization.
Oseola
McCarty of Mississippi spent her life hand washing laundry for rich people and saving
her money. In 1995 she donated $150,000
to the University of Southern Mississippi to be used for scholarships for
needed students.
Why
would anyone pinch pennies to save money to give away? I think this scripture says it all; it is not
about here and now, it is about eternity.
