Just the Facts

He who gives an answer before he hears, it is folly and shame to him.

Proverbs 18:13

Did you ever notice when we are in the heat of an argument that sometimes two plus two makes five?  That is, when we disagree it may be less about disagreeing, than it is about not listening to what the other person is saying.

We can save ourselves wasted words and hard feelings if we take a minute to think about what the other person is saying and ask, “Is it true?”

If it is not true, we can decide if it is worth the trouble of arguing about or not.  If not, we can dismiss the argument by saying, “So, that is what you think.  OK.”  And, move on.

And if it is true, we can own it.  If the boss says, “You’re late,” and we are, then we can say, “I’ll try to do better,” and get an alarm clock.

Listen up and lighten up.
