Therefore,
let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest, any one of you
may seem to have come short of it. For
indeed we have had good news preached to us, just as they also; but the word
they heard did not profit them, because it was not united by faith in those who
heard….
For
the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two edged sword, and
piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and morrow, and
able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews
4:1-2, 12
We
all know what they say about people whose parents took them to church and who turn
out bad: “Going to church did them no
go.”
And,
adults who attend church and do things contrary to the teachings of Christ are called
hypocrites.
So,
what can we say? I think this scripture
says it all: “… the word they heard did not profit them, because it was not
united by faith in those who heard.”
However,
the word of God is strong and once heard it remains, and as along as the hearer
has breathe he or she has the opportunity to accept it and Jesus and to receive
God’s grace.
We
do not know when the Word of God will be united in faith in the heart of an
unbeliever, but we know when it happens, God is there waiting.
