Spent, But Not Finished

And he was afraid and arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah and left his servant there.

But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a juniper tree; and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, "It is enough; now O Lord, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers."

He lay down and slept under a juniper tree; and behold there was an angel touching him....

1Kings 19:3-5

This is how Elijah responded to life after he called the fire down from heaven.  If you read I Kings 18 and through I Kings 19, you will see that Elijah was not only a man who achieved a great victory by the power of God but also a man marked for death.  He was a man who exhausted everything within himself, who was reduced to running and hiding.  He was convinced he had somehow failed God.

But what happened?

God did not forget Elijah.  He sent angels to minister to him and God, himself, spoke words of encouragement to Elijah and sent him to minister to the remaining 7000 faithful in Israel, and to find his successor - Elisha.

What can we learn from this?  That even when we think we are done and there is no hope for our ministry to others, God says, "Wait a minute, I am not through with you."

This being the case, I say to you:  Hang in there God is not done with you.  You have words to speak and blessings to give.
