“Woe
to the world because of its stumbling blocks!
For it is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to that man
through whom the stumbling block comes.”
Matthew 18:7
What
do you do when you encounter a new Christian?
Do you immediately start thinking about the things which they need to
fix? Maybe you think they should quit
smoking or swearing or cover up those tattoos.
You know what I mean; the list could go on forever.
This
is what Jesus was warning against. It is
not our job to fix everybody. We don’t
expect a new baby to walk and talk, and neither should we expect new Christians
to instantly metamorphosis into super holy exhibitionists. I am not saying that Christianity does not
change people, because it does. But the
change is mostly on the inside – in the heart – to start.
We
need to remember that Jesus did it all on the cross. Our job is to keep new Christians on the
right path; that is the path of learning more from the Bible which will help
them become the spiritual giants God intends for them to be.
