“The
Lord’s bond-servant must not be quarrelsome, but be kind to all, able to teach,
patient when wronged, with gentleness correcting those who are in opposition,
if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth,
and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil,
having been held captive by him to do his will.”
2 Timothy 2:24-26
As
Christians, people who malign Jesus really get under our skin. Sometimes that is exactly what they want to
do; that is, to antagonize us to a point where we respond in a less than
Christ-like manner.
Paul
warns us not to take the bait. We are to
keep our cool, and offer gentle correction.
Paul understood that unbelievers will have no reason to accept Jesus, if
the behavior of those saying they are Christians is no different than those who
are not Christians.
