“As
they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple
guard and the Sadducees came up to them, being greatly disturbed because they
were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the
dead.
And
they laid hands on them and put them in jail until the next day, for it was
already evening. But many of those who
had heard the message believed; and the number of men came to be about five
thousand.” Acts 4:1-4
Persecution
of Christians for preaching the Gospel is not new. The Apostles were jailed for preaching the
good news of Jesus, the Savior of the World.
Persecution did not stop the spread of Christianity, it aided it.
Even
as Peter was drug off to jail, men believed the message he preached and came to
acknowledge Jesus as the Christ.
We
need to be mindful of this today. Even
if there are those who ridicule us for our stand as Christians, there are
others who will see and hear our witness and come to know Jesus.
The
power of the Gospel is greater than any force man can bring against it.
