“For
He says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have
compassion on whom I have compassion.”
“So
then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God
who has mercy.”
Romans
9:15-16
Every
now and then, we encounter someone who we think that there is no way that they
could have become a Christian. Perhaps
their life is a mess or they have a long criminal record or they have had
issues with how to treat people. They
may have been rude or corrupt or intentionally rubbed people the wrong
way. We meet these people with great
skepticism.
Fortunately,
for these people it is not up to us to decide their fate, because God says that
He will have mercy and compassion on whomever He chooses. God is not picky like us, God is merciful.
So,
when we run into someone we think is not Christian material and who is
declaring their salvation to us, let us thank God that He is merciful and that
the same mercy He extended to us, He extends to all.
