Now
when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He was asking His
disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”
And
they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others
Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.”
He
said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Simon
Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
And
Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did
not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. I will also say to you that you are Peter,
and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not over
power it. I will give you the keys to
the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in
heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall have been loosed in heaven.”
Matthew
16:13-19
What
do we confess? For many of us it is our
sins over and over and over again, even though when we asked Jesus to be our
Savior our sins were forgiven and forgotten by God. Therefore, it is not our unworthiness as
sinners that define us, but it is that we are intimately connected to the Son
of God because He came, He died and He rose from the grave and He has forgiven
us.
What
we should confess is that, which Peter confessed; that Jesus is the Christ, the
Son of the Living God. It is this
confession on which the church is built.
And, it is on this confession our lives are transformed.
When
we approach God in prayer let us confess this:
Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. And, then see what power God unleashes when
we pray.
