Do
not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans
12:21
We
all are judgmental. We look at people’s
actions and judge them as good or bad.
We are rarely indifferent. When
we judge people’s actions to be bad, we may choose to not minister to them and their families.
My
question is: Can we change people’s
hearts? No.
But
we can take the love of Jesus to them.
When we provide for people based upon their needs and not upon
whether or not we think they deserve to be helped, we are overcoming evil with
good. Poverty can be evil, it can
corrupt lives by wrapping people in hopelessness.
When
we give to the needy without being asked we stick a dagger in Satan. A bag of groceries or a box of crayons or a
pair of new shoes for a child may not seem like much, but it can give
hope to a family.
Hope
opens the door for Jesus. And, isn’t
that what we are called to do?
