God's Got Your Back

Blessed be the Lord,
Because He has heard the voice of my supplication.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusts in Him and I am helped;
Therefore my heart exults,
And with my song I shall thank Him.
Psalm 28:6-7

In good times, in bad times and at all times God watches over us.  When we cannot see the end, God is already there waiting for us.

God's got your back.

Look At That Kid!

“And His father and mother were amazed at the things which were being said about Him.”  Luke 1:33

We are so close to our children that we sometimes do not see what other people see.  Jesus was a baby, when God revealed to Simeon that He was the Messiah.  Mary and Joseph were not expecting that.  I am sure they knew Jesus was special because the Angel told them so before He was born but they probably thought that this would not be revealed to anyone else until Jesus was an adult.

Let’s all take a minute to watch our kids and catch them doing something good.  And, say, “Wow, that sure was nice of you to do that.”

Family Is A Treasure

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Luke 12:34

What do you love?

When I was a teenager my Dad loved his lawn.  It was green and manicured and looked perfect.  One of my friends drove through my Dad’s front yard.  That is when I discovered my Dad loved his lawn more than me.  My Dad blamed me for the actions of my friend.  I was not in the car or at home when it happened, but it was my fault.  The haranguing went on for weeks.  It really hurt my feelings.  My Dad would say he did not love his lawn more than me, but that is not what his words said.

A family is a treasure; treat its members like gold.

Be At Peace, If You Can

“If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.”  Romans 12:18

While we are fighting the good fight, sometimes people will not leave us alone.  It is hard to maintain peace with people who take joy in wreaking havoc in other people’s lives.  Yet, this is what the Apostle Paul advocates because if we can continue doing right in the face of those who seek to disrupt us, we will accomplish far more than if we waste time arguing.

Further, I think Paul was thinking about Christians responding in a way that would give their antagonists a minimum of ammunition to use against them.  If we cannot be at peace, we can take a little time to choose the words we use to address our antagonists.  The last thing we want is our antagonists bragging about making us swear.

Squeaky clean words leave no slimy residue.

Hope and Wait Eagerly

“For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.”
Romans 8:24-25.

I believe God hears and will answer my prayers.  Yes, I do see some immediate answers, but for some answers I have waited a long time.  I do not lose hope for those people in my life for who I pray.  Even if the hope I have for them is dashed again and again, I know that God is mightier than any device of evil that Satan has or will create, and that God will prevail in the end.

I pray for those who suffer.  The world is fraught with evil.  People around the world suffer unspeakable horrors at the hands of evil governments, rogue armies, false spiritual leaders and evil people.  For those who suffer I pray for deliverance.

And, I hope and wait eagerly.
