“Who
is there to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good? But even if you should suffer for the sake of
righteousness, you are blessed…” I Peter 3:13-14
Christians
have become targets for doing the right thing.
The cities of Houston, Philadelphia and Orlando have tried to ban
Christians from handing out food to street people. In Minneapolis and New York City people
complain about church operated homeless shelters. We won’t talk about what happens when a
church puts up a basketball hoop in the parking lot.
If
we speak up for what is right, we often meet opposition. If we stay silent, then we are criticized for
doing nothing. The Bible says we need to
do what is right, and deal with the consequences. It is better to suffer discomfort for doing
what is right, then to suffer the consequences of doing nothing. We are not here to appease men; we are here to
please God.
