“Now
after this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them in pairs ahead of
Him to every city and place where He Himself was going to come. And He was saying to them, “The harvest is
plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest
to send out laborers into His harvest.
Go, behold I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no money belt, no bag, no shoes, and
greet no one on the way.” Luke 10:2-3
Jesus
sent out missionaries to prepare people for His arrival. He did not send out the best and the
brightest who had spent their lives hanging out at the temple, or the wealthy
in caravans transporting them and their belongings. Jesus sent out seventy regular folks and
instructed them not to burden themselves with items to make their journey
comfortable. Their job was to deliver
the news of His coming.
As
Easter approaches, we should think less about what we are going to wear, and think
more about doing what Jesus said we should do; that is to tell others about the
coming of the risen Christ.
Deliver
the news; invite someone to come to church with you on Easter Sunday.
