“Beware
of practicing you righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you
have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. So when you give to the poor, do not sound a
trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets,
so that they may be honored by men.
Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. But when you give to the poor, do not let
your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving will be
in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.” Matthew 6:1-4
Some
Christians have odd ways of having fun.
The latest is to “pay it forward.”
That is to do something nice for someone you don’t know with the idea that
they will then do something for someone else.
Some people pay for the food for the people behind them at the drive
through window of restaurants. Other
people put a few extra coins in the candy machine and leave a candy bar behind
for the next guy. The possibilities are
infinite.
The
idea is to bless someone who does not expect it and this is exactly what Jesus
was talking about. When we give
expecting nothing in return, we give as God intended that we give.
